In 2030, the population of the Netherlands will reach 17.9 million, an increase of 5.1% from 2017. Net migration will be a key driver of population growth during this timeframe, accounting for over two-thirds, meanwhile natural change will remain positive but will decline after 2026. Older age groups will increase rapidly up to 2030 but the population overall will not age as quickly as the region as a whole due the relatively high level of immigration.
