27 Aug 2010 • by Natalie Aster

Olin Chlor Alkali Products, a division of Olin Corporation (NYSE:OLN - News), today held a dedication ceremony for its recently modernized chlor alkali plant in St. Gabriel, Louisiana. The construction project took more than two years and cost approximately $170 million. The plant will provide over 110 jobs and generate $500,000 each year in city, parish and state tax revenues.

"This facility is an important part of the region's economy," said Olin Plant Manager David Gasper. "Throughout this long and expensive rebuilding project, we have worked hard to use local businesses whenever possible. We thank the people of this community for their support throughout this effort. We are in the process of conducting the final pre-commissioning activities and intend to start full production by the end of September 2009."

Olin Chlor Alkali Products' President John McIntosh said the modernized plant is an important part of Olin's future.

"This modernized plant will allow us to be well positioned to meet the needs of our industrial customers in this region," McIntosh said.

Olin Corporation is a manufacturer concentrated in two business segments: Chlor Alkali Products and Winchester. Olin Chlor Alkali Products, based in Cleveland, Tenn., is one of the largest North American manufacturers of chlorine and caustic soda. Its products play a key role in water disinfection and in the manufacture of pharmaceuticals and plastics.
